From Orbit to Impact:
Building Finland’s Future Space Ecosystem

On 12 May 2026, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, industry leaders, and ecosystem builders gathered at Startup Nation Finland for “Space Talk Meet-up”: From Orbit to Space, hosted at Crazy Town Tampere.

More than just an event, Space Talk Meet-up became a dynamic platform where Finland’s growing space ecosystem came together to explore how space technologies, infrastructure, cybersecurity, skills, and entrepreneurship are shaping the future of business, cities, and global competitiveness.

The evening opened with welcoming remarks from Tommi Juhani Uitti and Dipanjan Das, who highlighted Startup Nation Finland’s commitment to building stronger innovation ecosystems through European initiatives, including the FIERCE Project and its Ecosystem Building Programme, which supported the event. This Space Talk Meet-up event is a launched Local Entrepreneurship Initiative (LEI) aimed at strengthening the use of green space data within the ecosystem, thereby contributing to a faster, more efficient, and smoother green transition for organizations.

A special international highlight of the evening came from astronaut candidates Beson Dahboor Engel, President at Space Economic Forum LLC and astronaut candidate at Titan Space Industries Inc. and Carl PetMecky, Chief Strategy Officer, also an astronaut candidate at Titan Space Industries Inc. Carl is also program director at Space Economic Forum LLC and shared global perspectives on the future of the space economy and empowering vision of cis-lunar economy.

In support of the local ecosystem and global context, Dipanjan Das from Startup Nation Finland was recently appointed as the Strategic Advisor for Partnerships and Global Space Ecosystem for Space Economic Forum LLC. This will further strengthen and Support the Space Economic Forum LLC in supporting space economy, which is no longer just about the next launch, it is the next Industrial Revolution. The Space Economic Forum LLC also pushes Solar System Global Standards (SSGS) to provide the technical, legal, and ethical “Operating System” required to make space access safer, cheaper, and fundamentally bankable.

Carl Petmecky and Beson officially invited the Finnish ecosystem to join the Space Economic Forum 2026, taking place in Helsinki from December 1-5, 2026.

The event concluded with a powerful panel discussion on how space data, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and talent development can unlock new business opportunities across climate resilience, smart cities, mobility, defense, industrial applications, and digital transformation.

For Startup Nation Finland, Space Talk Meet-up represents more than a single event. It marks the beginning of long-term ecosystem development connecting startups, SMEs, universities, investors, policymakers, and international partners while accelerating participation in initiatives such as the European Space Agency and Horizon Europe.
