Urban Innovation Vienna (UIV) Innovation Day Highlights Mobile Mapping and Geospatial Innovation for Public Administration

On 24 June 2026, the UIV Innovation Day brought together around 100 participants to explore the latest developments in artificial intelligence and digital innovation for public administration. Organized by UIV for the City of Vienna, the event provided a platform for exchanging ideas and showcasing innovative technologies that can support digital, data-driven and efficient urban governance. UIV collaborates with the FIERCE project’s Ecosystem Building Program and, acting as an innovation intermediary, supporting it ecosystem to utilise downstream space data for green transition.

As part of the programme, a dedicated session focused on the activities and the new Mobile Mapping Equipment of the Vienna Geospace Hub (operated by the UIV). The session presented ongoing efforts to advance the use of geospatial technologies for urban planning, infrastructure management, and evidence-based decision-making.

To strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors, several SMEs working on urban challenges related to mobile mapping applications were invited to present their solutions. Their innovations included Earth Observation (EO)-based InSAR applications for monitoring building movements, as well as technologies for assessing building risks related to environmental hazards. The event created valuable opportunities for technology providers to exchange knowledge with representatives of the City of Vienna and other potential users.

The Innovation Day demonstrated the growing importance of digital innovation and geospatial intelligence in supporting resilient and sustainable cities. Through the Vienna Geospace Hub, UIV continues to foster collaboration between public authorities, research organizations, and innovative companies to accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge urban technologies.
