IEEC to Co-Chair European Session at the SCO World Virtual Congress 2026

2 October 2026

The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), a member of the FIERCE ecosystem, will play a leading role in the upcoming SCO World Virtual Congress 2026, a global online event organised by the Space for Climate Observatory (SCO) alongside COP31.

As a member of the International Program Committee and co-organiser of the European session together with the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC), IEEC continues to strengthen collaboration between the space sector, public authorities, researchers and industry stakeholders working on climate action.

The European session, “Data to Impact: Lessons Learned for European Climate Initiatives“, will take place on 18 November 2026 and will explore how satellite-based services are being transformed into practical tools that support climate adaptation, resilience and informed decision-making across Europe.

The discussion will bring together representatives from government, industry and research to share experiences and identify the key factors behind successful climate services, including end-user adoption, sustainable business models, public procurement pathways and climate-finance opportunities.

A keynote address from the Government of Catalonia will provide insights into regional challenges, resilience priorities, and climate-financing needs. The programme will also feature roundtable discussions focused on operational climate services and the value of public-private-research partnerships in accelerating their deployment.

The SCO World Virtual Congress aims to showcase concrete solutions enabled by space technologies and promote international cooperation in addressing climate challenges. Bringing together stakeholders from around the world, the event will highlight how Earth Observation and satellite-based services can support climate action across different regions and sectors.
