FIERCE Masterclass: The role of downstream space data across the mining life cycle: a focus on safety applications

Raw Materials Integration
Earth Observation Global Navigation Satellite System

This Masterclass offers a comprehensive overview of how space data can support every stage of the mining lifecycle, from exploration to closure. An introduction on Earth Observation (EO) and GNSS technology will be made.
A particular focus will be placed on safety applications. Both GNSS and EO technologies play a crucial role in this domain. GNSS can be used in static mode to monitor the displacement of critical infrastructure and slopes, and in kinematic mode to track mining vehicles in real-time, helping to optimize routes and reduce the risk of accidents. EO data, particularly through InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar), enables precise measurement of ground displacement, both at local and regional scales, with millimetric accuracy.
