Momentum Lab Concludes Its First Cohort, Accelerating Romania’s Next Generation of Space Startups

2 June 2026

The first edition of Momentum Lab, Romania’s pioneering space business incubator and accelerator focused on Earth Observation (EO) technologies, has successfully concluded with a Demo Day held in Bucharest on 30 May 2026. Organized by ROSPIN and AIM Space, the program brought together 11 startup teams from across Romania and Serbia to develop innovative solutions addressing sustainability and green transition challenges through satellite data. The initiative was part of the FIERCE project’s Ecosystem Building Programme.

Over the course of four intensive weeks, participants received expert-led training, one-on-one mentoring, and hands-on support in building market-ready solutions based on Copernicus and Sentinel Earth Observation data. The program combined technical development, customer validation, and business pitching, helping teams transform promising ideas into deployable products.

The inaugural cohort produced six working MVPs and six finalists who presented their projects to investors, industry partners, and members of Romania’s growing space ecosystem during Demo Day. The winning team, AquaGraph, developed a satellite-based river pollution monitoring platform capable of identifying contamination sources across entire river networks. Second place was awarded to Hail Mary, a disaster-risk intelligence platform for rescue teams, while ApaRahova secured third place with its precision irrigation solution for large-scale agriculture.

Other finalist projects included solutions for solar farm site selection, flood-readiness software for industrial facilities, and thermal pollution monitoring using satellite imagery. Together, these projects demonstrated the potential of Earth Observation technologies to address environmental, agricultural, and infrastructure challenges across the region.

Momentum Lab is the first dedicated program in Romania focused on transforming Earth Observation data into early-stage space businesses. By providing mentorship, industry connections, and practical entrepreneurial training, the initiative aims to strengthen the emerging space innovation ecosystem in Romania and Eastern Europe.

Following the success of its pilot cohort, Momentum Lab is now seeking pilot partners, investors, and mentors to support participating teams as they move toward real-world deployments and commercial growth. Organizers also plan to build on this momentum through future cohorts, further expanding opportunities for aspiring space entrepreneurs in the region.
